What does Skypuzzler do?
Skypuzzler is a Danish deep tech company enabling safe, scalable uncrewed operations. Its patented integrated Digital Air Traffic Control (iDATC) provides real-time strategic and tactical deconfliction and clear flight paths via software-to-software communication, without additional on-board equipment. iDATC supports one-pilot-to-many-drones operations and helps manage the growing complexity of airspace, aligning with the objectives of the global drone ecosystem and regulatory frameworks for digital, safe, and sustainable drone integration.
What is integrated Digital Air Traffic Control (iDATC)?
iDATC is a software-to-software coordination layer between UTM/ATM environments and drone operators’ fleet management systems. We do not require additional hardware. Once integrated, iDATC supports continuous conflict detection and resolution, so drone operations can scale safely, economically and in alignment with the evolving U-space and UTM ecosystem.
Does Skypuzzler use AI?
Overall, yes, as our solution is based on a deterministic, rule-based algorithm that follows a defined logic. In this case, the same input data, system configuration, and rules produce the same result. It eliminates the “black-box” uncertainty and allows full internal inspection at any discrete point, providing the explainability and reproducibility required for flight certification.
It’s important to note that iDATC does not use generative AI or machine learning, which are usually associated with AI.
What is Skypuzzler's definition of tactical deconfliction and strategic deconfliction?
Strategic deconfliction in air traffic refers to the process of ensuring that aircraft operate safely and efficiently within shared airspace by preventing potential conflicts or collisions before they arise. It involves proactive planning, coordination, and management of flight paths, airspace usage, and schedules. The goal is to maintain safe separation between aircraft while optimising air traffic flow.
Tactical deconfliction in air traffic refers to the real-time management and resolution of conflicts between aircraft to maintain safe separation during flight operations. Unlike strategic deconfliction, which focuses on pre-planned measures, tactical deconfliction involves dynamic decision-making and interventions by air traffic controllers (ATC) or automated systems to address immediate or emerging conflicts.
With advanced strategic and tactical deconfliction, Skypuzzler is freeing drones from fixed corridors and segregated areas, enabling higher drone circulation and allowing complex operations like parcel deliveries and medical transport flights with a high degree of flexibility.
Does iDATC require any hardware?
No. iDATC is software-only. We do not require extra ground hardware, onboard hardware or proprietary physical infrastructure. Integration is through software interfaces with existing platforms.
Is iDATC a UTM system?
No. iDATC is not a full UTM platform and does not aim to replace UTM systems. It is a specialised software layer that can sit between UTM/ATM systems and drone operators’ fleet management systems to provide advanced conflict detection, resolution and airspace coordination.
IS iDATC an ATM system?
No. iDATC is not an ATM system. It is designed to integrate with ATM/UTM environments and support the coordination of uncrewed traffic, especially where multiple operators, missions and systems need to share the same airspace safely.
Can iDATC integrate with any UTM platform?
iDATC is designed to be platform-agnostic. We aim to integrate with different UTM providers, ATM systems and operator platforms, provided that the necessary data interfaces and operational requirements are available.
Can iDATC integrate directly with drone operators?
Yes. iDATC can integrate with drone operators’ fleet or flight management systems. In some markets, integration may happen through the UTM/USSP layer; in others, direct integration with operators or FMS providers may be appropriate.
Which standards does Skypuzzler follow?
We align with relevant U-space, UTM and aviation digitalisation standards as the ecosystem evolves. This includes attention to EUROCAE work, such as ED-318 for geographical zones and U-space data provision and exchange, as well as broader interoperability requirements emerging from European U-space implementation. EUROCAE describes ED-318 as supporting data scope, quality requirements, data format, model and exchange through information services in support of Regulations (EU) 2019/947 and 2021/664. We are in compliance with ASTM F3548-21 , so-called InterUSS.
How does Skypuzzler align with U-space?
U-space requires digital services to support safe drone operations in defined airspace. EASA describes key U-space services such as flight authorisation, geo-awareness, network identification and traffic information. iDATC is complementary to this ecosystem because it focuses on the coordination and conflict-management layer needed when traffic density and operational complexity increase.
How does Skypuzzler charge?
Our preferred model is usage-based. Once integrated, iDATC does not impose high static costs on UTM/ATM providers or drone operators. Operators can pay based on usage, for example, per minute of operation, and UTM/ATM partners can participate in the value created as operations scale.
